Hair. Hair. And More Hair.

It's been a few days since we've updated our blog.  We've been working our fingers to the bone with our new sofa everyday, in some capacity, since Saturday.  The smell of smoke and pets is finally gone.  Now, the biggest task is getting rid of all the very fine pet hair.  Tonight, we removed the hair from three of the four cushions.  The last cushion is the worst.  Not looking forward to it.  I will say that the cushions look amazing.  It's worth the work; however, we are tired of hair!

Hang with us.  We're getting close and will post pics in a few days.

Our new sectional sofa!

This beautiful mid-century, four piece sectional sofa has found a new home!  Ours!

What a day!  This morning, I received a message on Facebook from a friend with a link for a beautiful, blue/green weave fabric sectional sofa on Craigslist.  When we got up this morning, we had no intention of buying a sofa.  Actually, we are buying another sofa we found on Facebook a few days ago.  It will be delivered tomorrow evening.  It's another mid-century jewel that we will post pictures of.  Anyhow, back to the sectional.  It's a lovely mid-century sectional sofa.  It's in amazing condition for its age.  No rips or tears in the fabric.  It needs a little cleaning up and we will replace the foam in the seat cushions.  It smells a little of smoke but everyone smoked back in the day.  It was discovered by a down to earth dealer, named Thom, at an estate sell yesterday.  It's only had one owner.  According to Thom, the owner said it had seen many a cocktail party.  If this sofa could talk, boy...what stories it could tell!

Mid-Century Martins: who we are

Hello World!

We are Hershel and Jody Martin of Overland Park, Kansas.  We love mid-century music, fashion, decor, culture and the rest!  Our interests focus on the 1950's and early 1960's.  We just moved into our 1954 ranch home and are taking it back to the 50's.  Through our blog we will share with you our passion for mid-century life.  If you are looking for a blog about mid-century modern...well, this isn't the place for you.  We aren't into the mid-century modern stuff.  Not our scene.  We look forward to sharing with you our passion for mid-century life!

We want to thank our good friends, David and Rachel Rainwater, for encouraging us to start this blog.  Also, Hershel would like to thank Stephanie Kuhr, of Dottie's Delights, for assuring Hershel that blogging is manly!  Thanks you guys.  We love you!

Let the mid-century adventure begin!

Our 1954 ranch home.  Love at first sight!
Us at Viva Las Vegas 14 in April 2010.  Jody was sporting some Betty bangs and red lipstick.  Hershel was just beginning to grow out his hair for a pompadour.  It's getting there...slowly but surely.
